Frequently Asked Questions

What information do I need to have gathered for a commissioned piece(s)?

I need pictures! These are used as references or to recreate that unique image into a hand-drawn piece. You can never provide too many. In some cases, I may even ask for a few more if more perspectives are needed.

I also like to know if there is anything specific you want included in your portrait(s). A special shirt, an expression, or even which person you want front and center in a group.

How do I determine the size of my portrait?

Size is dependent on how many elements there are, and you. For example, if you have one person as the subject of the portrait, size is up to you. I can enlarge the image, or we can do a desk size 4x6. Example 2, you have a group of 10 people. That's a little difficult to fit onto a 4x6! In that situation, I would recommend an 8x10 or larger. When we are discussing the scope of the portrait, I am always happy to give my advice.

How long should I expect the commission to take?

Commissions are a 2 week lead time minimum! Once we discuss the scope of your portrait(s), I can better estimate a lead time for your commission. If at any point I feel like more time is needed than originally expected, I will give you at least 1 weeks notice before the promised completion date. You can't rush art! If you think of something you would like to add to the commission after I begin, I will do my best to incorporate the new element. It just may extend your completeion date!

How will I receive my portrait(s)?

All finished portraits are sealed with a matte protective spray finish to prevent any smudging. They are still quite delicate, so handle with proper care! They are shipped or delivered to you in a clear vinyl sleeve and unframed. So don't forget to find the perfect frame for your art! My personal favorite frame style is a floating glass frame.

Can I have my portrait done in color?

I am a strictly black and white artist, color is not my forte!

How does pricing work?

Each size has a base price. Those base prices are the result of an averaged amount of hours spent on that size. Once we have discussed your commission in detail, I can better tell how much time it will take to complete. If I determine that your commission will take longer than the base price, I will give you the updated price before starting on your portrait(s).

I require payment in half up front before I begin, payment is due in full before delivery of the portrait(s). I will send you a watermarked copy of the portrait for you to preview and add any last minute touches if needed! Once you are happy with the portrait, I will collect the second half of payment and get it to you ASAP!

Shipping or pickup?

I am based in Wichita, Kansas. I can be super flexible. If it works easier for you to meet me somewhere locally, that is an option. If you can't pickup, I will send your portrait(s) with standard ground shipping (unless you specify otherwise). You are responsible for the added cost of expedited shipping!
